  • 20.10.2012 - Sensor monitoring in Nagios over LAN as well as over GSM/GPRS

HW group introduces its new HWg-Push Nagios collector – a simple way of connecting LAN and GSM/GPRS sensors to Nagios-based monitoring systems. For a system integrator, this means reduced costs for monitoring moving sites or sites that are difficult to connect to a standard LAN. Moreover, remote monitoring of technology and equipment can be easily offered as a service – GSM sensors can monitor any premises anywhere.

Discover how connect even GSM/GPRS sensors to Nagios..

Until now, IP sensors were limited to SNMP request-response communication over a local-area network (LAN). However, this was a major obstacle for GSM/GPRS communication. In the HTTP-based HWg-Push protocol, active communication is initiated by the sensor. The HWg-Push protocol addresses the needs and security of today's networks. Individual IP sensors can be located in separate firewalled networks, and the sensors actively connect to a central server. HWg-Push Nagios collector is a Nagios application for collecting data from IP sensors. Up to hundreds of IP sensors can connect to the central Nagios server and submit their data. The HWg-Push Nagios collector app then collects these data and passes them to the Nagios monitoring system.

  • 19.3.2012 - HWg-Ares12 – A New GSM/GPRS Thermometer

HWg-Ares12 enables remote monitoring of temperature, illumination, power supply and other sensors over GSM/GPRS. Its internal back-up battery can keep the measurements running for several hours. The product is designed for dozens and hundreds of installations.

HW group s.r.o., a LAN sensors manufacturer based in the Czech Republic, presents a new
HWg-Ares12 unit. This GSM/GPRS thermometer enables monitoring of temperature, humidity, door contacts and other sensors over a GSM cellular network. An internal rechargeable back-up battery keeps the device operating for 4 to 12 hours, enabling e-mail or SMS alerts to power outages.

Another unique feature, besides SMS and e-mail communication, is the HWg-Push protocol. The Ares unit can provide data to a standard SCADA or SNMP monitoring system (such as Nagios). It is therefore easy to create combined LAN and GSM remote monitoring systems. Sensors that communicate over GSM need a SIM and a data plan; on the other hand, they can be placed virtually anywhere. Installation is a matter of minutes and only requires GSM signal coverage.
