Ares 10: GSM thermometer with web portal, e-mail and SMS alarms

Ares 10 is a cost-effective GSM thermometer for remote monitoring and alarming. Connect up to 3 external sensors (temperature, humidity, light intensity, ...) and 2 contacts (digital detectors). Use the free-of-charge SensDesk.com portal to configure the Ares, send alarms or display graphs. Ares 10 GSM/GPRS thermometer is easy to install and can be used anywhere as long as there is GSM coverage.

HWg-Ares10 GSM is an effective solution for remote environment monitoring (temperature, humidity) over GSM without an internal battery. Environment monitoring over the mobile network (GSM) can be installed quickly and easily with the Ares; all that is needed is power and GSM coverage.

The two RJ11 ports can be used to connect 3 external 1-Wire or 1-Wire UNI sensors (max. 3 measured quantities in total). HW group offers temperature, light intensity, humidity, voltage, current (4-20mA) and other sensors.

Two digital inputs, IN1 and IN2 (green terminal block), can be used to connect simple status detectors (open/closed contacts). Relays of smoke detectors, open door detectors, water flood detectors etc. can be also connected to these inputs. States of detectors and sensors can be checked with a text message.

Alarm reaction can be as simple as sending an e-mail or a text message (SMS) whenever a contact is closed or a temperature exceeds the specified range. As a unique feature, after sending an alarm SMS (e.g. SMS temperature alert), the device can dial the target phone number and let it ring for a few seconds. Alarm status information can be sent to up to 5 phone numbers and 5 e-mails. More recipients can be reached by alarm escalation in the SensDesk.com portal.

As an important advantage, with Ares 10 GSM alarm thermometer, sensor readings can be plotted in a chart and the device can be configured using the SensDesk online portal (free of charge service provided by the manufacturer). Another option is to display the graphs in HWg-PDMS (free software) which retrieves the values by e-mail.

  • Ares 10 is a simple GSM thermometer:
The “HWg-Ares10 Tset” quick start set contains a temperature sensor, a universal power adapter and an external antenna.
  • Remote firmware upgrade (FOTA) capability simplifies management of large-scale installations with hundreds of devices.

PDMS: Data collection in MS Windows via E-mail

  • The HWg-PDMS software for MS Windows runs on a PC and downloads data from an e-mail account.
  • Ares GSM monitoring unit periodically e-mails the data to a dedicated e-mail account.
  • PDMS periodically downloads the e-mails and reads the data.

PDMS monitoring software

PDMS: Excel reportsHWg-PDMS periodically collects input states and sensor values from Ares units connected over GSM/GPRS and other Poseidon, Damocles and HWg-STE units connected over IP. Measured data are periodically stored into a database and exported as MS Excel reports.

  • Registered version is free of charge for three sensors
  • Collects data over IP (via an e-mail inbox)
  • Data collection runs in the background as a Windows service
  • Graphical overview of the collected data
  • Simple export to MS Excel (runs periodically in the background)

How to connect Ares to PDMS

  • 1) E-MAIL:
Through the email interface. Ares sends e-mails to a dedicated mailbox, where PDMS periodically downloads them.
PDMS processes e-mails with attached LOG files as well as alert messages.

  • 2) HWg-Push:
HWg-PDMS is installed on a server with a public IP address. Ares periodically sends data from connected sensors over HTTP.

  • What is the difference between Ares10 and Ares12?
The main difference is in the number of supported sensors (Ares 10 = 3 measured quantities / Ares 12 = 14 quantities) and the internal battery in Ares 12.
  • Can Ares 10 send an alert to power outage?
Ares 10 does not have an internal battery. Therefore, it can send an alert when the power is restored; however, it cannot send an alert when the power is out. To send such an alert, use an Ares 12 unit which has an internal battery (or use a back-up power supply + voltage detection at the input).
  • Can Ares 10 detect the presence of 230VAC (e.g. the input voltage of an UPS)?
Not in any simple way. It is best to use Ares 12 + PowerEgg2.
  • Can SensDesk.com send an alert that the Ares unit has lost power?
Yes. SensDesk.com can detect a failure of communication from the Ares device and send an alert to communication failure within 30 to 60 minutes.
  • How many temperature/humidity combo sensors can be connected for temperature and humidity measurement over GSM?
The Ares 10 GSM thermometer supports 3 sensors (measured quantities), Ares 12 supports 14 sensors (quantities).
Ares 10 supports only 1 combined temperature/humidity sensor.
Ares 12 supports up to 7 combined temperature/humidity sensors.
  • The humidity sensor reading oscillates around the specified SafeRange and I received over 50 e-mails in a single hour. What can be done about it?
Set the hysteresis for this sensor to about 5% RH. This reduces the number of unnecessary alarm start / alarm end e-mails that would be sent a couple of seconds one after another.
  • How far can I connect the external sensors?
1-Wire / 1-Wire UNI sensors: Max. 60 meters for each active port (RJ11 connector) at the Ares units.
Some sensors may require additional power.
  • Ares 10 features two digital inputs for dry contacts (IN1-IN2). Is it possible to extend the number of DI inputs?
No. It is not possible to connect more than two dry contacts to Ares 10.
  • Is it possible to connect the Ares 10 GSM thermometer to a cloud?
Yes, Ares is a “cloud oriented sensor”. It can be connected to cloud systems as a “Cloud sensor”.
Use the HTTP-based HWg-Push protocol. Contact us for details.

  • Where can I find the configuration software for Ares?
The configuration software appears as the “ARESCONF.exe” file when the unit is connected over USB to a Windows computer.
  • Is it possible to download logged data over USB?
Yes, the entire log file (data) can be downloaded over USB.
  • Can Ares 10 notify me when a contact is closed or opened?
Yes, you can even assign names to contact states (e.g. tank full/empty). When the state changes, a SMS is sent to a maximum of 5 phone numbers.

  • Where can I find the prices of your devices?
Ask our distributors, or request a quote directly from us using the form at this page.
