ALA product family
The ALA is a system for measuring, logging and visualization of physical quantities such as temperature, air pressure, humidity and others. It is small embedded module typical for very low consumption and advantageous for battery applications.
| Use the ALA to gain full-featured data-logger for your sensor application including many options of data processing and transferring to PC. Typical data string of sensors from ALA can be following:
- Measuring of temperature and humidity and following calibration and compensation
- Storing of processed values to internal FLASH memory in specified periods
- Sending of SMS message or e-mail after reaching specified values
- Web access to measured data via graphs
- Option of long-time autonomous running on batteries
Web server is a part of the program as well. On-line demo to try is here

ALA product family
- ALA module
Embedded module designed to easy integrate into the existing sensors. Main emfasis is given to very low power consumption and small dimensions.
- ALA KIT
Designed to quickly and easy begin using in the ALA systems but in less complicated application as well. The advantage is that some sensors are integrated in kit itself (temperature, humidity, lightening)
Typical application
Typical application of the ALA systems is area where you need to monitor and log physical quantities (temperature, humidity, air pressure and others). The advantage of the ALA proves especially when you require autonomous running on batteries (for example underwater probes).
Due to option to connect GSM GPRS modem and appropriate program support, the ALA is ideal system for monitoring values outdoor and in remote areas as well.
Application examples
- Monitoring of physical quantities outside
- Weather station
- Hydrogeological bore
- Air pollution monitoring
- Recording of environment conditions in critical objects
- Pharmacy storage
- Food industry
- Museums and galleries
Connection methods
- RS232
- support integrated directly in module

- option to use ALAConnect program or any terminal program to get connected
- X-modem protocol is used to download calibration curves and upgrade firmware
USB
- easy to connect via USB-RS232 converter - More information
- communication features are identical to RS232
- RS485 (RS422)
connecting over RS232/RS485 (RS422) converter - More information
- enables you to use cable up to 1200m long
- Ethernet (Internet)
- easy to connect RS232/Ethernet converter, for example PortBox – More information
- GSM/GPRS (Internet)
it is necessary to connect external GSM or GSM/GPRS modem, e. g. TG20 - More information
- option of duplex communication via SMS
- sending commands to the ALA over e-mail
- option to send periodically measured data via e-mail or SMS
- dialled data connection (CSD) - option to use supplied ALAConnect SW or Telnet program
- internet access – ALA module is able to generate simple web page to show measured data and configure ALA interface via web browser
Satellite connection
- Use satellite modem to reach data from ALA module in areas without GSM signal
Basic features
- Extremely low power consumption (3 AA type batteries expected lifetime app. 5 years).
- Wide range of power voltage (3 to 28V). Option to turn on power of external sensors during measuring.
- 1MB Flash memory to store up to 150 000 values (for example 7 values every 30 min = circa 1 year)
- Option to eliminate storing of identical values to save memory
- Wide range of input signal to output value converting (averaging, calibration, linearization and others). Conversion of input signal according to specified table along with second signal as a parameter enables data processing from non-linear sensor including temperature compensation.
- 1 serial port RS232 (USB), option to connect GSM/GPRS modem.
- The program support to connect ALA GPRS module, it contains SMS processing and web server. Option of firmware upgrade over serial interface.
- Entire communication proceeds over open text communication protocol.
- 7 universal I/O pins can be used as:
- analogue / digital input
- output to supply power to external sensors
- input for frequency measuring
- universal binary output
- Part of attached documentation are configuration examples for measuring all kinds of values including linearization and further processing.

FAQ & Support
Q: Is it possible totally disconnect sensors integrated in the kit and use inputs for own sensors?
A: Yes, use jumper and terminals to disconnect integrated sensors and then you can connect external sensor.
Q: What SW should I use?
A: Open text protocol is used for communication with the module hence you can used any terminal program. For more comfortable operating the ALAconnect program is supplied. It enables you to setup parameters and read values interactively.
Q: How to export data to Excel
A: Use the ALAconnect program to save data to text file, individual values are separated with commas. This format can be easily open in Excel program for further processing.
Q: Do I need any power source or cable before I start using the ALA kit?
A: No, supplied 9V battery is sufficient for power supply and it is part of package as well as serial cable.
