The Poseidon 1140 Tset and the Poseidon 1140 THset are ideal fot the first steps with the Poseidon device, but for some real applications you will have to extend them with a few more accessories. The following examples also show which accessories from our range you will need.

We also included some tips for the software to use.

PP01: 2 Temperature sensors

A typical application for small server rooms, where the sensors are close to the Poseidon unit. You can extend the installation to up to five measurement points only by purchasing more sensors.

• We measure: 2x temperature, both sensors are 3 meters from the Poseidon unit.
• Recommended SW
  • Supervision via the integrated WWW interface
  • Supervision using the PN Eye SW on a PC (it logs the measured values and sends alarm by e-mail)
  • Supervision via any SNMP SW, we recommend the CapTemp or the nmsDashboard.
• Accessories needed
  • 1 Poseidon 1140 [600 104] (current price)
  • 1 Europe Wall power adaptor 12V / 0,5A [600 080]
  • 1 Poseidon T-Box 1140 [600 039]
  • 2 Temp-1Wire [600 005] (RJ11, 3 meters, the temperature sensor is enclosed in a black plastic sleeve)

 
• You will also need
  • RJ45 cable for connecting the Poseidon device to Ethernet
  • You may also use 2 "L" shaped metal plates, size "A" for mounting the Poseidon device to wall [600 023]
• Possible extensions
  • For up to 5 temperature sensors (alltogether) you don't need to modify the connection. The T-Box unit has five RJ11 connectors for sensors, the whole length of cabling should be under 10 meters.
  • You can connect up to 3 sensors to the inputs for contacts (door sensors, smoke sensors etc.)

Summary

The price for the whole solution according to the list of accessories is c. 252 euros + VAT (according to the pricelist for february of 2006). You can find the current prices in the pricelist.

PP02: 2 Temperature, 1 Temp/Humidity sensor, 3 door contacts

A typical application for medium sized server rooms, 19" RACK supervision etc. The sensors can be up to 500 meters from the Poseidon device. You can connect up to 8 sensors (temperature/humidity) without changing the configuration, you only need to purchase more sensors.

• We measure :
  • 2 temperature sensors, 1 temperature/humidity sensor (RS-485 bus)
  • 3 door contacts (binary inputs for contacts)
• Recommended SW
  • Supervision via the WWW interface
  • Supervision using the PN Eye SW on a PC (it logs the measured values and sends alarm by e-mail)
  • Supervision via any SNMP SW, for example we recommend the CapTemp or the nmsDashboard.

• You will also need
  • Cables for connecting the sensors to the S-Hub unit. The cable (we recommend a CAT5) has to have an RJ45 on one end, the other end is connected to a wire or to a connecting block (picture of the connection). Another possible way is to use use the B-Cable unit [600 044].
  • Two core cables for connecting the door contacts, the original wiring is only 15 cm long.
  • RJ45 cable for connecting the Poseidon device to Ethernet
  • You may also use 2 "L" shaped metal plates size "A" for mounting the Poseidon device to wall [600 023]
• Possible extensions
  • You can use the described connetion for up to 8 sensors on the S-Hub (RS-485 bus), you only need to purchase more sensors of temerature or humidity. The S-Hub has 8 connectors for connecting the sensors (or another S-Hub unit). The whole cabling should be under 500 meters long.

FAQ & Support

Q: Can you send the alarm notification via email?
A: Yes, but if you are using the Poseidon model 1140 you can do this only by using the PN Eye software on your PC.

Q: Can you send the alarm notification via SMS?
A: Yes, but if you are using the Poseidon model 1140 you can do this only by using the PN Eye software on your PC which has a GSM modem connected.

Q: Which software should I use?
A:  Poseidon uses common protocols, this means that you can use any software which supports for example XML, or SNMP. To make this easier, read the device's datasheet, or refer to this page: Poseidon – communication interfaces .

Q: Will there be any more sensors available?
A: Yes, we are working on other types of sensors. We will soon introduce sensors of flooding, smoke and movement.

Q: Can you setup and install the system for us?
A: The HW group company is only a manufacturer, but we can arrange a third party installation for you.

Q: Can you monitor the sensors for us or can you provide us a 24/7/365 service?
A: Yes, please contact us for further information. We cooperate with a monitoring center which can supervise unlimited number of sensors in your network. You only need to setup the alarms and in case of any problems the monitoring company will contact you in a contracted way. (For example callling an IT representative during the night.)
