Temp-485-Pt100, Temp-485-2xPt100
Temp-485-Pt100 is a converter/thermometer, which converts temperature
from a sensor (Pt100 and Pt1000) to communication protocol over RS-485 busbar. The sensor can be
used separately but it is designed for connection to the Poseidon measuring unit.
Temp-485-Pt100
communicates over 4-conductor busbar. To one busbar it's possible to connect parallely up to 31 sensors. The busbar uses
4 conductors, two with a standard RS-485 line (up to 1200 m), the other two are intended for powering sensors.
- Converter: Signal from Pt100 is transferred to RS-485. Thermal sensor is usually located outside the converter box.
- Thermometer: Contains both thermal (Pt100) sensor and converter to RS-485.
The product signature Temp-485-Pt100 covers several device versions, as listed below, that are available.
They are mostly converters (Pt100 to
RS-485), because a thermal sensor is located outside the device unit. The
"Box" version contains the thermal sensor on a box, which means it represents whole thermal sensor.
Temp-485-Pt100
„Box“ version [600 113]
The thermometer consists of a box for wall mounting, which contains the RS-485 converter / temperature sensor and the Pt100/A sensor itself.
The thermal sensor is assembled on the top of the rod on the plastic box with IP65 shielding protection.
-
Temp-485-Pt100
„Cable“ version [600 114]
The thermometer consists of a box for wall mounting containing RS-485 converter / thermal sensor.
The Pt100/A sensor itself is attached on a 2m long cable and is a part of the shipment.
Temp-485-Pt100
„Head“ version [600 110]
The „Head“ version is a converter unit of the temperature monitored by an external thermal sensor to the RS-485 data bus.
The converter's mechanic construction is intended for mounting to a unified "B" thermometer's head. For
thermometer's construction it is necessary to connect an external Pt100 thermal sensor - platinum sensor (not part of the shipment)
which is connected by two or three conductors.
-
Temp-485-Pt100
„DIN“ version [600 111]
The „DIN“ version is a converter unit of the temperature measured by an external thermal sensor, to the RS-485 data busbar.
The converters mechanic construction is intended for mounting to a DIN molding.
For thermometer's construction it is necessary to connect an external Pt100 thermal sensor - platinum linear sensor (not part of the shipment)
which is connected by two or three wires.
-
Temp-485-2xPt100
„DIN“ version [600 112]
The unit is identical to the Temp-485-Pt100 „DIN“ version but allows connection of two external Pt100 thermal sensors to a single unit.
One box therefore responds at two different addresses at the RS-485 line.
Pt100
- the PT30 type [600 115]
Individual Pt100 thermal sensor for connection to converters. PT30
contains a thermal sensor in a metal rod made of stainless material and is connected by a four-wire cable with a
teflon insulation, metal covering with silicone insulation
Temp-485-Pt100 version „Frost“ [600 309]
Temperature probe for extremely low temperature measurements, equivalent to "Cable" version. The probe for measurements from -190°C and connecting cable are part of the supply.
Temp-485-Pt100 uses for temperature
measuring a standard platinum thermal Pt100 sensor. The thermal
sensor can by either a mechanical part of a thermometer in a measuring
stem or external sensor, connected by two or three wires.

Temp-485-2xPt100
The „Temp-485-2xPt100“ type is a converter of the temperature, measured by two external thermal sensors,
to RS-485 data busbar. The converter mechanic construction is designed for mounting to a standard DIN molding.
For creating a thermometer it's necessary to connect to the converter two external thermal Pt100 sensors
- a platinum sensor (not part of the shipment) connected over two or three conductors. A converter communicates over RS-485 line with
a superior station with baud rate of 9.600 Bd and 8N1 parameters. The Pt100 sensor is not part of the shipment.
The converter is suitable for usage in industrial environment.
The converter uses two communication addresses represented by two alphabetic letters.
The first thermal sensor is always connected to address given by a capital (e.g. „A“), the second
thermal sensor is connected to the address given by a lower letter (e.g. „a“). Both addresses
are assigned at the time by a command over RS-485. As a SW the converter behaves as two converters for one thermal sensor.

The converter is fitted in a box with mechanical dimensions corresponding to the "Box" version. The temperature sensor is located outside of the box. The sensor cable and the RS-485 bus lead through a single cable gland.
The sensor is mounted on a cable for placing in the low-temperature environment.
- Sensor: 1 x Pt100 / 2-wire connection
- Cable and sensor temperature range:
- General Pt100 probe: -200...+400 °C
- General Pt1000 probe: -150...+400 °C
- Delivered probe & cable: -190...+200 °C
- Sensor assembly dimensions: diameter 7 mm, length 60 mm
- Cable: 2 wires + shielding, length 2m, PTFE insulation / shielding / PTFE
Note: Technical specifications not listed above are equivalent to those of the "Head" version of the converter.
Basic characteristics of the PT100
Accuracy
Pt100/A Dt = ±(0,15 + 0,002 x |t|) [°C]
Accuracy Pt100/B Dt = ±(0,30 + 0,005
x |t|) [°C]
- When using longer wire to the thermal sensor (more than 1-2 meters) you can improve the accuracy by
using higher wire diameter of the connecting wires.
- When using 3 wire connection, its necessary to provide connection via three wires of the same diameter and connection type.
- What to choose, Pt100 or Pt1000?
Through the Pt100 sensor flows more measure current so we recommend it for using in industrial environments.
If you need to connect a measuring sensor over thin wiring, better use Pt1000 sensor.
Communication protocol
Sensors
work in the query - respond mode, the command response time on the RS-485 line is 20ms at maximum.
Communication proceeds in the Master - Slave mode by default. Poseidon contains a native support for
assigning address to these sensors.
- Communication busbar: RS-485
- Address range: “A” .. “Z” a “a” ..“z” - (except „T/t“, 25 addresses)
- Address setting: Over RS-485 line, only one sensor on a line while setting the address..
- Communication: ASCII, detailed description in the datasheet..
- Serial transfer parameters: 9600 baud, 8N1
All protocol commands can are described in the datasheet..
FAQ & Support
Q: Can these sensors be used separately or they must be used only with Poseidon?
A: No, the sensors can be used for any application, the manual contains the description of the protocol
which they are based on and they can be used separately from the Ethernet converter Poseidon.
Q: Which SW should I use?
A: On request, we will advice you, which program to use if using sensors separately.
There are several PC programs using compatible communication protocol.
Q: Are or will be available more sensors with this protocol?
A: Yes, we work on more sensors. There is already available
converter for connection of general current loop 4-20 mA, voltage 0..10V etc.
Q: Is there any SW solution to log data from these sensors independently of PC?
A: Yes, the sensors can be connected to the Poseidon2 system, which manages logging values.
Log files are then available over Ethernet network via HTTP protocol in CSV format.
Q: Can you supply calibration protocols for the sensors as well?
A: Yes, but details are dependent on concrete sensor, amount etc.
Q: Can you supply the sensor mentioned in some modification?
A: Yes, but this service is available for our current customers. Our main product is
the Poseidon system, not different mounting methods for the sensors and such..
